Chapter Facts/Mission/Bylaws

Chapter Facts

The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, a not-for-profit corporation, is a group of 2,200 cardiologists, fellows-in-training, cardiac care associates and practice administrators who live and practice throughout the state of Pennsylvania. ACC presently has 50 Chapters plus Puerto Rico.

The Pennsylvania Chapter was developed in the late 80's when the national ACC recognized a growing need for more local representation to state government, Medicare carriers, third party payers and the private sector. Through meetings/seminars, newsletters and grassroots efforts, the Pennsylvania Chapter works to ensure a high level of professional visibility.

The Chapter is represented through Medicare's Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC), the Pennsylvania Medical Society's Specialty Leadership Cabinet, and various private payers throughout the State, through the Chapter's liaison system.

The Chapter currently holds a FIT Seminar and a CCA Seminar. The Chapter also produces a newsletter — Heart of the Matter (exerpts from Heart of the Matter can be found under newsletter on the home page).

Mission

The mission of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (PaACC) is to advocate for quality cardiovascular care – through education, research promotion, development and application of standards and guidelines – and to influence health policy.

The PaACC promotes the same values of the American College of Cardiology:

  • Professionalism - The interests of patients are primary.
  • Knowledge - The ACC and PaACC must promote growth, dissemination and application of knowledge about cardiovascular medicine.
  • Value of the Cardiovascular Specialist - The cardiovascular profession makes a distinct contribution to medical care that should be recognized and enhanced.
  • Integrity - Honesty, compliance with legal requirements and ethical behavior are essential in all activities.
  • Member driven - The ACC, PaACC and their major activities must be led by active members and must promote volunteerism.
  • Inclusiveness - The ACC and PaACC involves a broad range of volunteers that reflects the composition of its membership.

Purpose of Chapter

The purpose of the Pennsylvania Chapter shall be to contribute to the mission of the American College of Cardiology, to learn the needs and wants of the chapter membership and relay those to the College leaders, to address the local needs of the Chapter members, especially with regard to clinical education, working environment and quality of care initiatives, to serve as the voice of the cardiology community in the state by advising local and state government and professional organizations on issues related to cardiovascular disease, and to work with members of the Chapter in influencing legislative and regulatory efforts affecting the practice of cardiology and quality patient care.
